Homes and walls in New Mexico
New Mexico has building styles you rarely see elsewhere. Around Santa Fe and Albuquerque, some homes are real adobe or have thick plastered walls, rounded corners and kiva fireplaces. A TV cannot simply be screwed into adobe — it needs long anchors and sometimes a backing board, and cables usually stay on the surface. Newer homes in Rio Rancho and Las Cruces are frame construction with drywall, and mount like any standard wall.
Whatever the wall, the rule is the same: the installer checks it with you and you approve the spot before anything is drilled.
