Homes and walls in Illinois
Illinois has two very different kinds of walls. Chicago's bungalows, two-flats and greystones often have plaster over lath or solid brick, and downtown high-rises have concrete walls and metal studs. Suburbs such as Aurora, Naperville and Joliet are mostly drywall on wood studs, with a finished basement as the favorite place for a large TV. Plaster, brick and concrete can all take a mount, but each needs its own anchors, so we ask about the building first.
Whatever the wall, the rule is the same: the installer checks it with you and you approve the spot before anything is drilled.
Where we plan to open in Illinois
We open a city once at least two local installers there have passed our selection and a hands-on skills test. These five come first.
