Homes and walls in Maine
Much of Maine's housing is old: capes, farmhouses and multi-family homes in Portland, Lewiston and Bangor, many with plaster-and-lath walls and uneven framing. Plaster needs careful drilling and anchors made for it. Exterior walls are heavily insulated, so cables are best hidden only in interior walls. Brick chimneys and wood stoves are common, and a TV near a working stove has to be placed with heat in mind.
Whatever the wall, the rule is the same: the installer checks it with you and you approve the spot before anything is drilled.
Where we plan to open in Maine
We open a city once at least two local installers there have passed our selection and a hands-on skills test. These five come first.
