Homes and walls in New York
New York means two different jobs. In New York City, prewar apartments have thick plaster, brick or terra-cotta block walls, and newer towers have concrete and metal studs; most buildings also have rules about drilling and insurance for outside workers. Upstate, in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers, older houses commonly have plaster and lath. Suburban homes are drywall on wood studs. We ask about the building before we quote.
Whatever the wall, the rule is the same: the installer checks it with you and you approve the spot before anything is drilled.
Where we plan to open in New York
We open a city once at least two local installers there have passed our selection and a hands-on skills test. These five come first.
